The Inn is located in the small towne of Haiku, one of Hawaii's last remaining plantation townes. We are just off the Hana Hwy at mile maker 11, & only a couple minutes past Hookipa Beach Park. Our home is easily accessed and we are just down the street from Haiku's main marketplace and towne central so to speak. We are on a paved road, no muddy travels here, and our drive is marked with a sign out front.
How Far Is it to the Airport?
We are about a 15- 20 minute drive to the airport depending on the traffic coming through Paia, which is only about 7-8 minutes down the road from us.
How far to the Haleakala Summit?
Since we are located on the slopes of the crater, it takes only about 45 minutes from our drive to the top parking lot and lookout. Making our location one of the most convenient places to stay when visiting the crater. We do suggest that guests leave 1.5 hours prior to sunbreak to get up to the summit, through the gates and parked for morning view of the sunrise.
How far to Hana Town and the Seven Pools?
Being just off the Hana Highway, we are very conveniently located for day tripping into Hana. It takes about 2 hours to get to the pools on a leisure drive, however, as we all know you are going to stop and see the sights so your day and experience will differ from everyone else's. We do provide complimentary use of our tour cds you can use in your rental car for a wonderful informative trip and tips for all those special places as must sees.
How Far to Paia or Makawao?
We are located on the edge of upcountry and the north shore areas. Both Paia and Makawao are less than a 10 minute drive for fabulous little restaurants, wonderful boutiques and an eclectic mix of art galleries.
So now what about Haiku?
Well we are located within about a 5 minute walk up or a brief drive to town : a quaint little town with wonderful people. It's Hawaii really at its best and we support all our local merchants who welcome our guests with aloha. We recommend several of our local eateries with everything from fine dining, local plate lunches, vegan take out to our latest Maui Kombucha and Noku (Japanese). So much to experience here in our little town and its convenient, cost affective and culturally viable even in these modern times. Go to Hana Hous on Monday night for Hawaiian Music and a promtu hula, really where can you see the old Hawaii you have heard so much about. Here in Haiku of course it's alive and well!
Plenty of off road parking, loads of space for windsurf vans. Just come down our beautiful curvy drive, meet the grande dame of mango trees and you are there. Drive careful because our latest adoptees of feral cats.. Mommie and Duckie might be in the driveway to greet you. We know silly names but heck when you find them under your house you just punt.
What About Breakfast? 8 am self service continental breakfast buffet
Well it is true, hot breakfast is not allowed to be served per B&B regulations. however we provide a nice continental breakfast daily. Grandmas dishes & eclectic serving ware make for a fun presentation and of course the fresh fruit, yummy baked goods & cereals served with fresh hot Maui coffee, local herbal tea and fresh juice truly make a wonderful breakfast. Sit at the table and chat with other guests about your day trip plans and experiences here on Maui.
Early Morning Breakfast: Sunrise
If you are planning to go early morning to a sunrise, please let the management know ahead of time by at least the previous day at breakfast. For the comfort of other guests sleeping in the wee hours, we do not work in the house nor prepare or cook any meals at early morning hours. Normal breakfast service is at 8 am. We know sometimes guests might want a little something to take along. If notified, we can certainly set up something to take for your morning trip: to go lunch bags are located a top the B&B service fridge in the lobby, a selection of items to go vary: yogurt cups, juice boxes, granola bars, mixed nuts or trail mix etc . You can pack a to go snack.
Check-in / Check-out Times: Check in is anytime after 3 pm. . We run a small B&B with only four (4) rooms so we handle all the love and work ourselves .. so it is best for us to know your arrival time so in case we need errands that day we are prepared to be home when you arrive. It is difficult to have early arrivals but you can check a couple days prior to see how the check outs look for your arrival day. If we can we will accommodate you.
Late arrivals after 7 pm: Additional late check in fee of $25 since we do have to stay on call. If you wish to have a greeting in the evening, the additional charge is $35.00
Check out 11 am: Check out though we do ask to keep the 11 am timeline since it does take time to clean and turn the rooms for our next wonderful arriving guest!
Payments: A 50% deposit is due upon booking to confirm a reservation, with final payment due 60 days prior to the arrival date. Any payment that is declined or an ivalid credit card, will result in a cancellation of the reservation. Guests are responsible to make their final payment by the due date as stated within their reservation confirmation. Payments not received on time will result in the forfeit of deposit and cancellation of the reservation. Any final payment that is made by credit card that is declined or returned check, the reservation will be canceled with forfeiture of any previous deposits.
Credit cards: visa or master card, paypal, cash with valid credit card on file / we do not accept personal checks.
Handling fee: credit cards and paypal , a 3% handling fee applies.
Walk-ins: We do accept walk-ins if we have availability. Payment for room must be made upon check-in for your complete stay. Cash or credit cards accepted. If cash a credit card must be on file for damages or incidentals.
Confirmation: A confirmation email will be sent back to you with all information regarding your credit card charges, and your reservation. Please be sure to check this confirmation to be sure dates and information are correct. Once in a while a guest will book rooms for wrong dates, let's just all be sure we have it correct and make for a smooth and wonderful stay on Maui. Please note the due date for the final payment which is 60 days prior to your arrival date.
Do I Need to Bring a Beach Towel? NO.... we want you to have loads of space in your luggage for those special treats and souvenirs you take home and retain your memories. So... we provide beach chairs, towels, mats, even umbrellas and coolers. Boogie boards as well, but please be water safe.
Is the Inn Permitted?
YES... we jumped hoops to gain the necessary permits to operate a professional and legal business in our home. Our permit number is BBPH2009/007
Proprietors with approved permits, have insurance obligations and standards of operation they must uphold with the county including residing in the home.
Rooms: each room has a private bathroom stocked with fresh white towels, a European Shower Dispenser for shampoo, conditioner and bath/shower gel. Hair dryers are in each room and lovely milled hand soap. If you are scheduled for a massage a personal cotton Kimono style robe is placed into your room..
Internet: Free wireless internet
Cable etc: cable tv and a nostalgic style cd player are both located in the front guest lounge/living room area. We have a library of dvds and Hawaiian cd music, also a wide variety of books covering everything from novels, local guide books to Hawaii history and wellness. Maui informational and historical DVDs are a great way to start your trip, to see all those wonders of Maui and decide where your travels may take you next.
Kitchen: The central kitchen is mainly for business use such as breakfast prep. You are more than welcome to store your cold items in one of the guest fridges located either in the guest dining room or the back ohana. There is a guest microwave, electric teapot, coffee service, and plenty of dishes , utensils, etc. for your culinary needs. If you use any items, we do ask that you clean up after each use and put everything back away for the comfort of others staying in the house.
Kitchen use for full house rental: please contact us with regards to the information and requirments to include damage and clean deposit, insurance, outside caterer or chef approval and each must be licensed and peroperly insured and Haiku Plantation Inn and its owners additionally insured.
It is lovely to walk the grounds and gardens full of tropical and fresh fruit growing. Often we serve fresh items picked straight from our gardens for breakfast, and sometimes depending on the season, we might have a few fresh grown items for sale to help support our farm to table sustainablility project.

Cancellation of reservations must be made in writing.
Upon booking: One night plus tax non refundable cancel fee per room cancelled
Single night bookings: no refunds if cancelled
After 60 days prior and before 72 hours out: refund is based upon re-booking of room(s) and amount refunded is prorated according to new replacement booking less one night + tax initial cancellation fee. If room is not resold, there is no refund.
After 72 hours prior to your date of arrival: No refunds for cancelled reservations, no shows or unused portions of stay once arrived.
Smoking or Open Flames:This is a non-smoking home. There is no smoking in or around any structures. An outdoor garden location is available for those who wish to partake away from the other guests. No open flames of any kind to include incense and candles, strickly prohibited in and or around any structure. Breaking of the policy will result in immdedate request to leave with a no refund of any remainder portion of the reeservation not used. If smoking in the home or room occurs, deep clean fees apply of a minimum of $350.00, any damages or necessary replacement costs plus the deep clean fee will be the responsibility of the renter and paid via the incidental and/or damages credit card on file.
Room Selection: Please note that we make every effort to place our guests into their first choice room selection, however we do reserve the right to be able to make substitutions in the rare case. On occasion as with any establishment we do encounter last minute issues. In the event there is no room available we will make every effort to find alternative accommodations or refund in full for that evening. We are a small family run operation, which highly values our guests and their comfort, we make every effort to bring you a wonderful experience in a historic old home.
Bookings that are less than the 3 night minimum , we do take occasionally with the knowledge that we will try to place you into the room of choice.
Cleaning Fee: Please note that all reservations do have a cleaning fee. We keep our rates very reasonable for our guests, and all reservations unless otherwise noted do have a reasonable cleaning fee. Our fee is only $55.00 Pus tax per room as a one time fee. We understand that staying only a night or two may seem to be an easier situation to clean, however, less than the 3 night stay translates to our need to fully clean the room more often. So please understand that even if you do stay one night, the cleaning in your guest room is still several hours to complete. Holiday Season: clean fee is $85 + tax
Quiet Time:B&Bs have very strict policies imposed by the county since we are within residential areas. Quiet time at Haiku Plantation Inn: 9 pm - 8 am
We ask our guests to please abide by this policy not only for the other travelers sharing the B&B experience but also for our neighbors and friends. If leaving early for Haleakala sunrise please load your car with any supplies etc the night prior and leave and quietly as possible, everyone will appreciate your kokua.
Often there is a small yet unique gift boutique with handmade items, jams & jellies, special spices or local sugars etc.... all created with aloha & locally within our community. It's hard to find products from Maui, so this is a treat for those looking for a real souvenir. Spend a little cash and support our locals during this hard recession time. The home houses really an eclectic mix of museum style pieces, with many historic pieces spanning from the time of early Hawaii to modern day plantation production.

Just to name a few items of interest for our guests or visitors to see and enjoy.
We do practice sustainable principles. Towels are exchanged upon request and trash etc removed at the same time. Any bath products that run low we will refill as well at that time, or gladly upon notice. For stays of longer than 4 days we provide a room refresh, however, we will clear this with the occupant prior to entering the guest room.
We have found that guests welcome the privacy in their rooms, so please if you need anything just ask as we are here to assist but not intrude upon your privacy. There is a notice (door hanger) located in the bathroom of each room, you can hang on your door for fresh towels, if you are too shy to ask.
Beach towels are also available, and can be exchanged for fresh with just a simple request. Please help to keep the beach sand out of the home and your room, leave all soiled towels on the porch in the large basket.
Shoes, Homes, and Culture:
We do support a no shoes in the home policy, Polynesian and Pacific Rim cultural practice, so please remove your shoes prior to entrance. Mahalo for you kokua in keeping the floors free of debris.
